Meet the Locals!

You'll spot a myriad of birds, wallabies, sea creatures and other wildlife in and around Sully's.

Here's some of our favourites!

Southern Cassowary

You will see the cassowary in the streets surrounding Sully's and on the drive into Mission Beach. Take care when driving as these majestic birds cross the roads regularly. Motorists generally flash their lights to indicate a bird is in the vicinity.

Agile Wallaby

Wallabies occasionally munch on the grass at Sully's. You are very likely to see them along Wheatley Road and Reid Road, especially early morning and late afternoon.

Starfish

Keep an eye out for starfish on the beach!

Butterflies

We have seen many butterflies in the garden at Sully's including the Ulysses (Blue Mountain) and the giant green Cairns Birdwing butterflies.

Black Cockatoo

Black cockatoos frequent the beachside trees in front of Sully's.

Beach Stone Curlew

The Beach Stone Curlew can be seen on the beach and sometimes in the front yard at Sully's, especially at night.

Stingray

Stingrays can be seen in the shallows as you walk along the beach.

Turtle

You can spot turtles from the shore and around the rocks on the Kennedy Walking track.

Dolphins

Dolphins can occasionally be seen from the shore in the waters between the beach and Dunk Island. You will often see dolphins if you are out in a boat.

Lorikeet

These beautiful birds enjoy the flowers and stems of the melaleuca tree. You'll hear them, as they are noisy.

Fish

Walking along the beach you will spot mullett and other bait fish. Boating and snorkelling around the nearby islands offers the chance to see many more tropical fish.

Birdlife

We've spotted lots of birds at Sully's:

Cassowaries (wandering the streets, along the roadside or on the Lacey Creek walk)

Leatherhead (loves to feast on the melaleuca flowers)

Rainbow Bee Eaters (they love the grassy areas around the back yard)

Blue Winged Kookaburras (look for them in the melaleuca tree)

Black Cockatoos (generally in the trees diagonally across the road, near Owen Street sign)

Olive backed Sunbird (feasting on flowers in the garden, you'll hear the chirps)

Swift (sitting on the power lines near the back fence)

Sea Eagle (soaring the skies above the beach)

Bramany Kite (soaring the skies)

Plovers (in the front yard and along the beach front)

Beach Curlew (along the beach front)

Rainbow Lorikeets (feasting on nectar in the trees)

Wildlife

Keep an eye out for:

Dolphins (occasionally seen from the beach, often seen from a boat)

Dugongs (occasionally seen from vantage points on land, more likely to see from a boat)

Turtles (often seen along the beach, especially around rocky headlands on the Kennedy Walking track)

Crocodiles (they are in the water and not always seen. Be croc wise in croc country!)

Mullet fish (often seen from the beach as you walk along)

Monitor Lizard (you may see this lizard, like a goanna, in the scrub areas)

Snakes (we haven't seen any, but this is Australia, so they are around!)
